High Society at the Wellcome Trust

The Wellcome Collection at Euston, London, curated 2 brilliant exhibitions on sleep a few years ago so the expectations of their newest exhibition: High Society: Mind-Altering Drugs in History and Culture, is just as grand.

The Guardian’s Johnny Davies wrote about the exhibition in yesterday’s issue: Drugs: the highs and lows. Natural or synthetic, legal or illegal, people have been taking drugs for thousands of years. High Society, a new exhibition at the Wellcome Collection, explores the culture of getting out of it…

The Guardian describes how recreational drug usage has become mainstream and even thinks that all of the US will have legalised marijuana in the near future. The curators are at pains to underline the mutability of culture and society, and how a drug’s definition is determined by non-chemical factors such as intent behind its use, its method of administration and the social class of the user. I can’t wait to go!

The exhibition ‘High Society’ will run from 11/11/10 – 27/02/11 at the Wellcome Trust, Euston, London
