Narcolepsy UK Conference in Cambridge 2010

with one comment

Today,I will be writing directly from the Narcolepsy UK’s conference in Cambridge so I will be posting throughout the day on various themes. At the moment John Cherry the newly appointed director of Narcolepsy UK and the current chairman Bill Harris is welcoming delegates and MP Jim Paice will be opening the conference as a senior member of the government.

He says in a very charming way that his knowledge is limited on narcolepsy.

The current government priority is obviously to cut the national debt. If we don’t take some serious measures now, we will end up in a very dire situation. Two departments have been ring-fenced: 1. overseas aid and 2. NHS. Spending will be increased. The NHS will however face pressures because they will have to make unprecedented efficiency savings. The savings will be reinvested to improve the health service. We are also looking at reducing management costs.

We will put patients in the heart of the reform to improve front line care.

The conservatives and the liberal democrats coalition government is wholly committed to the National Health Service.

Recently in the news, reports has suggested possible links between N1H1 Pandermix vaccine and development of narcolepsy. At the moment these links are being evaluated but as present no link has been established. 6 million doses has been dispensed in the UK and no reports of narcolepsy has been recorded.

I hope you have a good time and have time to enjoy Cambridge. I am delighted to open your conference officially.

The Chair man Bill Harris continued with a news update:

1. The charity has been renamed from UKAN to Narcolepsy UK

2. Director John Cherry has been employed to run the charity.

3. Developed the website: http://www.narcolepsy.org.uk

3. Stop charging membership fees etc.
