Narcolepsy – A rare condition?
It makes me irritated to read everywhere that narcolepsy is a rare condition.
In the UK, it is estimated that 1 in every 2000 suffers of the condition. That means in the UK there are on average 42000 narcoleptics.
About 50,000 people have been diagnosed with narcolepsy in the U.S, but there may be as many as 2.4 million people unknowingly living with it.
if those figures are true, that means that approximately 10000 narcoleptics have been diagnosed in the UK. There are millions of narcoleptics out there. Most sufferers are unaware of their difficulties, others suffer in silence. Narcolepsy is a largely misunderstood and misdiagnosed condition because if there are millions of sufferers all over the world how can it be classified as a rare condition?
