Living with narcolepsy: a personal journey

Falling asleep whilst walking EDS & Automatic behaviour

Today, I was walking home and felt my body getting more and more sleepy. As walked down my very familiar street, I made a mental note to go into a shop at the end of the street to get some sugar. In emergency situations like this sugar is the only thing that can bring me back to consciousness quickly, unfortunately it drops me equally quickly but it gives me time to get home, to get safe so I can sleep. I think it is a combination of EDS (excessive daily sleepiness and automatic behaviour). On a few occasions, I have walked long distances sleeping, even crossed roads to wake up/come back to consciousness really surprised that I have walked so far. I have never been in an accident (- touch wood) which I find remarkable. This and cataplexy scares me the most.
